COSTA RICA FISHING

Experience world-class sportfishing

Would you like to go on a fantastic fishing trip in Costa Rica where the sun shines and fish bite all year round? Then you’ve come to the right place! We specialize in complete fishing trips tailored for the true sportfisherman. Whether you want a dedicated fishing trip to catch your dream fish or you’re planning a regular vacation with family or friends, we can customize your travel plan and include as many fishing days as you wish. We have all the options to perfectly tailor your fishing adventure just for you!

We fish both deep-sea fishing (trolling) for the truly big fish such as Blue/Black/Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, Dorado (Mahi Mahi), Wahoo, and more. If you prefer a more active fishing experience, we also fish inshore using spinning, popper, jig, live bait (fly fishing with your own gear) for species like Roosterfish, Jack, Snapper, Grouper, Tarpon, and more. Of course, we can split your fishing days between both types of fishing entirely according to your wishes.

Fishing boats in Costa Rica

We collaborate with the best captains and sportfishing boats around this amazing country, Costa Rica. This guarantees that you will have access to top-quality equipment, local expertise, and an unforgettable fishing experience – whether you’re fishing offshore or near the coast, we can offer the boat you desire.

The boats are always rented privately per party, meaning you have the entire boat and crew for yourselves. The sportfishing boats vary in size from 22 to over 55 feet, so there is something to suit all types of anglers. We recommend a maximum of 4 people actively fishing for deep-sea fishing and 3 people for inshore fishing – but the larger boats can comfortably accommodate over 10 people onboard.

Prices vary greatly depending on the size of the boat, equipment, and location. We help you find the right option based on your wishes and budget.

Deep-sea fishing

Sailfish Costa Rica
Join us out on the Pacific Ocean and experience the thrill when a Sailfish, tuna, or maybe even a Marlin bites! Costa Rica is one of the world’s best destinations for deep-sea fishing – here, warm waters, rich marine life, and experienced captains await to take you to the best fishing spots.

You fish from a comfortable sportfishing boat equipped with modern gear. We primarily fish through trolling, where several lines are drawn behind the boat as we search for the big fish. However, if we come across a school of tuna, you can of course cast after them with lighter gear too. The captain and your fishing guide will assist you with everything – from keeping the beer cold, rigging the rods, to safely landing your dream fish!

During the fishing days, the following is included: Full fishing equipment, bait, lunch, snacks, fruit, water, soda, and beer. (Lunch is not included during half-day fishing trips.)

Inshore fishing

Catching big fish inshore with light tackle is one of the most enjoyable challenges a sport angler can have, and here even the small fish become big. Seeing roosterfish dorsal fins breaking the water’s surface and start to chase your popper, or the splash when a Cubera Snapper jumps and takes it, is what inshore fishing is all about at its best!

We fish inshore along the entire Pacific coast as well as for Tarpon and Snook on the Caribbean side. Our skilled captains know the best spots near islands and shoals where you will spend your days trolling, popping, or jigging for roosterfish, tuna, jacks, snapper, grouper, needlefish, and much more.

During the fishing days, the following are included: full fishing gear, bait, lunch, snacks, fruit, water, soda, and beer. (For half-day fishing, lunch is not included.)

Costa Rica truly offers an angler’s paradise, where both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts deliver incredible action year-round — from trophy Marlin and Sailfish offshore to hard-fighting Roosterfish and Tarpon closer to shore.

Costa Rica offers world-class sportfishing all year round!

The Pacific Coast shines from December to April, during the dry season, with calm seas, sunny skies, and temperatures around 28–35°C (82–95°F) — perfect for offshore and inshore adventures.

From May to November, the Green Season brings occasional rain, but plenty of great fishing days and warm tropical weather.

On the Caribbean side, Tarpon fishing is incredible year-round, peaking in September and October when the weather is at its best.

No matter when you come, Tulu Travel will match you with the right destination and season for your dream fishing experience!

Absolutely! At Tulu Travel, we specialize in creating trips that offer something for everyone. We can easily arrange a fishing trip for those who want to head out on the water, while the rest of the family relaxes on the beach or enjoys another excursion that suits them better. That way, everyone gets the most out of your well-deserved vacation.

In Costa Rica, it’s customary to tip the crew after each fishing trip as a token of appreciation for their hard work. The amount is entirely up to you, but a typical guideline is $20–$100+ USD per day per angler. Many crews are used to American guests who often tip around 10–20% of the charter cost, though this is by no means required — it is, however, greatly appreciated by the crew.
